Q. When should I contact Three Season Landscaping, Inc. for consultation?

A.  If you are building a home, you should contact TSL, Inc. well before the house is built, when the land is purchased. Homeowners typically contact an architect for plans of their home, but rarely do they consult with a landscape contractor and designer before their home is built. Crucial details such as the placement of the house on the land in an environmentally sensitive manner and driveway layout should be designed well in advance of construction of the home.

If you have an existing home and would like to add features, remove overgrown plants or are contemplating an addition, please call us to set up an appointment to begin the design process.

Q. Why would Three Season Landscaping, Inc. be interested in the layout and design of our septic system?

A.  One of the first things we ask homeowners is: “Where is the septic tank and leachfield?” We look at the proximity to the front entrance, driveway and how it will affect the design. The septic cleanout should not be laid out where your walkway or driveway will be. You cannote drive or plant shrubs and large trees over the leachfield and septic tank. When examining your septic system design, you and the septic system designer should ask yourselves, how will this layout affect the features of your final landscape design?

Q. Should I have my driveway paved before I call Three Season Landscaping, Inc?

A. No. Invariably, the paving contractor is hired to pave your driveway. The asphalt company is not paid to design the driveway, taking into consideration the correct dimensions of the turnaround, the most aesthetic and practical approach to the house and guest parking. Most of the time, the path that was originally used as an access road to the site for the construction of the home is paved over as the new “driveway”. This is one of the biggest and most costly mistakes we see. Your driveway and access to your property deserves the experience and careful attention that we can provide as part of your landscape design.

Q. I am ready to build my dream home. I have budgeted enough for the architectural plan, the sitework, the construction of the house, the septic design and the well. I’ll move into my home and save up for landscaping later, or I’ll pick up a few shrubs myself. Have I forgotten anything?

A. Yes. You haven’t contacted Three Season Landscaping, Inc. for consultation and a landscape design. Landscaping is much more than beautifying your home with trees and shrubs.  First, you haven’t allowed for access to your new home. Many homeowners live in their new homes for years without a walkway to their front door, a driveway and without addressing drainage and slope erosion problems. A small problem turns into major damage in time, so budgeting for landscaping now will alleviate problems and add tremendous value to your home, increase safety and security and turn your lot into an enjoyable environment. This environment will contain the proper circulation routes for you and your guests, places for play and relaxation and comfortable, safe access to your home.

Q.  I would like to hire Three Season Landscaping for my landscape installation, but would like to see a landscape plan. If I hire you for the job, I assume the design would be free, is this correct?

A. No, the landscape design carries a charge over and above the cost of the project. We will be able to give an accurate price for the project when we can calculate materials costs, plant costs, square footage of patios and walkways and stone walls based on a plan drawn to scale. In this way, you can count on actual costs as opposed to an estimate. This design work takes time, expertise and experience and is not done on the spot as in a “free estimate”.

Q. I know what I want my landscape to look like, do I really need a landscape design?

A. Yes, the landscape design will define the ideas that we discuss at our initial meeting. We both need to visualize these ideas on paper so they can be discussed in advance of construction, eliminating questions. The plan will prompt discussions about the sizes, shapes and quantities of proposed features. If there are other contractors involved in your project, such as pool, fencing, audio, irrigation and septic, they can all be given a copy of the plan. Our crew uses the plan when construction begins. Most importantly, we can accurately calculate the price of your project from the plan.
